ESL 42 – ACCENT REDUCTION

This course provides contextualized practice at the intermediate/advanced level to improve the speech and intelligibility of nonnative speakers of English. It focuses on problems of American English pronunciation, unclear individual sounds and positional variants, stress, rhythm and intonation common to speakers of different language backgrounds.

ESL 43 – BUSINESS COMMUNICATION

This course focuses on the following key skill development areas: giving presentations; actively participating in meetings; negotiating agreements; explaining and defending positions; and using business vocabulary and idiomatic expressions in business-related conversations.

ESL 44 – SPEAKING TO CUSTOMERS: CUSTOMER SERVICE

This course exposes students to internal and external customer services skills for the workplace. Emphasis is placed on the importance of body language and well as the use of common idioms. Telephone, internet as well as face-to-face communications will be addressed.

ESL 45 – BUSINESS WRITING

This course focuses on formatting, punctuation, appropriate word usage, and style. Class assignments will include the critique and editing of a variety of business letters, email messages, memoranda, and reports.

ESL 46 – FAMILY LITERACY

The objective of this course is to strengthen student learning when: dealing with their children’s educational experiences; understanding the legal system in America; health care services and other general topics that impact immigrant families in northern Virginia.

ESL 47 – ONE-TO-ONE INTENSIVE ENGLISH

This course is tailored to the individual needs of each student and is therefore individually designed based on the level of English proficiency, desired language usage and outcomes, and length of time that the student is available for study. This program can begin on any Monday and may last for one week or more, based on the needs of the student. Instruction arrangements are flexible and can be provided by the student or by Evergreen Academy.
